What are you more upset about - about the result, or about your own game in the second and third sets?

I was upset about the result, because losing is always unpleasant, especially in the finals. I can’t say that I played badly, I just had a feeling that I didn’t have enough energy to turn the tide. She began to play more actively, I had to break something in her game. Unfortunately, I did not manage to do this.

On the court, you jokingly said it was a pity that Belinda qualified for the Final tournament the day before and already felt more relaxed. Was there a kernel of truth in this joke?

There is always a kernel of truth in every joke, especially in my jokes (laughter). I really think so, because I watched her previous matches. She started a little nervously. She often does. She was very emotional today, especially in the second and third sets. She just had nothing to lose. I was upset that I did not have enough strength. I felt both physical and moral fatigue. Not enough to resist Belinda, to break something in her game.

Are you satisfied with yourself in terms of fighting spirit? Have you been fighting with yourself all this week?

Of course, I am proud of myself and am pleased with how everything turned out this week. From the first round there were very difficult matches. I either lost the first set, or too many games. Sometimes there were moments that could be decided by a couple of points. I have issues with my game, of course, and, thanks God, this is not the limit. Otherwise, if it were the limit, then things would be bad. Now I’ll recover, rest and concentrate on the game.

Summarize the achievements of the work with the new coach Sam Syumik and will you continue to work together?

More likely we will continue to work together. It's not even about the results. When we started working after the US Open, we knew that we would have the Asian series and Moscow. It was difficult to set specific goals. It is unclear what conditions I was in, plus there was fatigue. Now it was hard to work on the technique, we understood that. I happened to reach two finals. It's great.

Are you satisfied with your foot work today because you said the day before that you would like to change your legs and feet?

Today they refused to cooperate with me (laughter). We had a fight. In fact, physically, I was not in very good conditions today. This is the end of the tournament. Only one more push was needed. I tried not to think about it. The first set was quite good. But I was not alone on the court, and, unfortunately, I had not enough strength to win.

You became Russia’s top player, what does it mean to you?

Of course, it’s nice, but I don’t think about that. We have so many good girls, strong girls. Ranking always changes quickly. For me it is more important to be ranked high above all in the world rankings. There are certain goals: to climb to the top in the WTA ranking, to play Grand Slams, next year's Olympics. But finishing the year in the rank of Russia’s player is nice.

Russia is to play a Fed Cup tie away in Romania shortly What can you say about your participation and your role in it?

I haven’t thought about it yet. I do not exclude that I will be there. I wonder whom they will have. I hope that Simona Halep will not play (laughter). In fact, she is very enthusiastic about playing for the national team. And me too. It's hard to say anything now.

Could you tell us what you liked about the «Krylatskoye» stadium and what you didn’t like?

I liked everything here, really. If you are really nitpicking, OK, maybe they can make the locker rooms a bit bigger, but that’s it. Only positive emotions about this arena. Lighting is good. The surface can be rough, though, I can feel it through my body. But whether it was possible to make the surface better on ice, I cannot really say.

Shamil Tarpischev, at the beginning of the tournament, during the press conference, said that a couple of years from now Russian girls will also be able make a breakthrough like the Russian men’s trio Medvedev-Khachanov-Rublev. Who will be part of that eventual Russian women’s trio, in your opinion?

It could be anyone. Especially now with the opportunities we have. We all have the opportunity to hire a good team. And then the main thing is motivation. At this point, details play a big role. No one expected such a breakthrough from the Russian boys, but here is the result. I would like to be in this (women’s) trio (laughter). And I don’t know who is joining me there. Anyway, I will be happy to have some company (laughter)!
